President's Corner, Community, Security

By Dave Graveline, The Moors Master Association President

Mediterranean Boulevard, or as some affectionately call it, the “Mediterranean 500” due to excessive speeding, has recently undergone a significant safety upgrade. If you’ve been driving along this road, you CERTAINLY have noticed the introduction of new flashing stop signs strategically placed in front of the Moors Club Center. This initiative is aimed at enhancing safety and curbing speeding issues, with a special emphasis on the safety of children waiting for school buses and coming in and out of the Club Center throughout the day and evening.

Flashing stop signs for enhanced visibility

In response to the growing concern of speeding and to ensure the safety of the community, the Master Board made a crucial decision to install stop signs featuring flashing LED lights. These attention-grabbing lights are designed to be unmissable, providing an effective means to slow vehicles down, especially in the vicinity of the Moors Club Center, and thus create a safer environment, especially around areas frequented by children.

In collaboration with the Miami-Dade Police, particularly the off-duty officers dedicated to community safety, the Master Board is cracking down on speeding and stop sign violations.

Prioritizing safety for community events

The installation of these flashing stop signs aligns with the increasing number of community events hosted at the Club Center. The Master Board’s proactive approach aims to ensure a secure environment during these gatherings, considering the increased foot traffic of children participating in various activities throughout the day and evening.

Preemptive measures: “Stop Sign Ahead” warning signs

To eliminate any excuses for overlooking the stop signs, “Stop Sign Ahead” warning signs have been strategically placed in both directions. This preemptive measure ensures that everyone approaching the area is adequately informed, reducing the likelihood of inadvertent violations.

Enforcement by Miami-Dade Police officers

In collaboration with the Miami-Dade Police, particularly the off-duty officers dedicated to community safety, the Master Board is cracking down on speeding and stop sign violations. In addition to the numerous speeding tickets already issued, officers have been actively monitoring and already issuing citations for infractions related to the new stop signs.

This cooperative effort aims to create an environment where adults and children can navigate the area safely, promoting responsible driving habits among residents and visitors alike.

Multifaceted approach: Electronic devices and community cooperation

Complementing the physical interventions, the community has embraced a multifaceted approach to safety. Over five electronic devices have been strategically placed, reminding everyone to maintain a speed limit of 30 mph, especially along Mediterranean Boulevard. Drivers are urged to cooperate and extend the courtesy of slowing down not only for their safety but also for the well-being of others sharing the road. This cooperative effort aims to create an environment where adults and children can navigate the area safely, promoting responsible driving habits among residents and visitors alike.

These enhancements on Mediterranean Boulevard represent a concerted effort to create a safer environment for all. The flashing stop signs, coupled with warning signs and police enforcement, aim to curb speeding and promote responsible driving habits. As a community, let’s prioritize safety on Med Boulevard and encourage visitors to do the same – because safety is a shared responsibility.
